• Description:

    The Idiap Research Institute is seeking a PhD student to develop multi-modal deep learning techniques for depression detection. This project involves a collaboration with institutions in Switzerland and Mexico, focusing on culturally and gender-aware AI solutions.

    This PhD project aims to develop AI-based tools for understanding and diagnosing depression disorders. The candidate will model data from diverse modalities like speech, video, and text. Emphasis is placed on cultural and gender awareness in these models. The project is a collaboration with the Department of Computer Science at CIMAT and the National Institute of Psychiatry INPRFM in Mexico. Participants will engage in several research activities, possibly spending part of their study in Mexico to enhance collaboration.

    Eligibility 

    • Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics.
    • Strong background in Mathematics, Programming (Python), and Machine Learning.
    • Knowledge in Speech and Signal Processing, Natural Language Processing, or medical data analysis is advantageous.
    • Fluency in English; Spanish and French are desirable.
    • Interest in the target domain and collaborative work.
    • Encouragement for applications from diverse backgrounds, notably female candidates.
