Description: Dr. Cheng is recruiting two graduate students (PhD or Master’s level) to join the A.C.T. Hydro Lab in the Department of Geological Sciences at the State University of New York at Buffalo, starting in Fall 2025.
Dr. Cheng is seeking students with an interest in computational hydrology, particularly those interested in developing and applying numerical modeling or AI/ML techniques to study changing hydrologic cycles at the land-atmosphere interface and assess risks for water-related sectors. While the specific research topics are flexible, they should align with the lab's current research themes. Prospective students are encouraged to review recent publications to gauge compatibility.
Given the quantitative nature of the lab’s research, Dr. Cheng is particularly interested in candidates with strong quantitative, statistical, mathematical, or computational backgrounds, or those with a strong motivation to develop these skills during graduate school.
Interested candidates should contact Dr. Cheng (ycheng46 at buffalo dot edu) with a brief description of their background and research interests, along with a CV. The deadline for the online application, including recommendation letters, is December 15, 2024.
