• Description:

The Department of Health Technology and Informatics welcomes applications from high potential candidates with academic excellence, research ability and potential, and good communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities for full-time PhD study in Hong Kong through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) 2025/26.

The Department of Health Technology and Informatics is comprised of Medical Laboratory Science and Radiography – two well-established healthcare disciplines whose tertiary education has a long history of over 40 years in Hong Kong. The department also offers education and research in Bioinformatics and Medical Physics. The unique combination of these healthcare disciplines in one department enables us to share expertise, complement each other and excel in both academic programmes and research.

We strive to excel in research in Bioinformatics, Biomedical Science, Medical Imaging, Medical Physics, and Radiation Science. We conduct both basic and translational research under five thematic areas:

    1. Cancer
    2. Haemodynamic and Vascular Disorders
    3.  Immunity and Infection
    4. Metabolic and Ocular Disorders
    5. Neuroimaging and Neuropathology

Our research laboratories are equipped with advanced instruments for high-impact research work. In addition to working with researchers within the University, we also collaborate with top-notch scholars around the globe. We supervise research students by drawing expertise from within and outside the Department as appropriate.

Our PhD programme aims to provide rigorous training to students who aspire to become researchers or scholars capable of conducting independent and original research, and producing research findings that are relevant and significant to their chosen field of specialisation. The graduates will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform investigative work of substance with rigour and wit.

    Application

Applicants seeking admission to the PhD programme should identify and make contact with their intended PhD supervisors in the Department before submission of their applications via the HKPFS 2024/25.
