    Within an interdisciplinary European collaboration, we seek to fill a position for a Doctoral PhD Student. Starting date Fall 2024.

    Peptide- and protein-modifications are required for numerous applications ranging from up-cycling protein waste streams to sophisticated applications in biotechnology, medicine and crop protection. The proposed doctoral project will develop and apply methods to selectively functionalize, modify or cleave peptides and proteins by chemical (non-enzymatic) methods, ideally with high yield and selectivity.

    1. design and prepare artificial chemical proteases
    2. develop protocols to selectively cleave, hydrolyse and modify proteins and peptides
    3. analyse and characterize obtained products

    The contract will be for three years upon successful completion of the initial first year. You will conduct your research at School of Life Sciences FHNW and are enrolled as a PhD Student at the University of Basel.

    Qualifications 

    The successful candidate will

    • have a master degree, expertise and interest in organic chemistry or a related subjects
    • have interest and experience in the application of multiple analytical methods
    • have interest in modern tools for data analysis and interpretation
    • like to work and communicate in a multidisciplinary team locally but also across a multinational consortium
    • be highly motivated and like to work independently
    • will speak English; German is an added benefit
