The Department of Biological and Environmental Science at the University of Jyväskylä is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher in Cell and Molecular Biology to join the ERC-funded project “The Life of Giant Phages” led by Assistant Professor Elina Laanto. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in phage biology and phage-host interactions, with a focus on understanding the biology, ecology, and competition dynamics of giant phages. The successful candidate will engage in experimental work, collaborative research, and have the opportunity to develop their own research interests within the project framework.

Qualifications 

• A doctoral (PhD) degree in microbiology or a related discipline.
• Strong interest in phage biology and phage-host interactions.
• Previous experience in microbiological methods, molecular biology, and basic bioinformatics.
• Advantageous skills include experience in microscopy, transcriptomics, and/or metabolomics.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Proficiency to teach in English is beneficial.
