i. KAIST Scholarship

Full tuition fee: tuition exemption for 4 semesters (MS) / 10 semesters (MS-PhD Integrated) / 8 semesters (PhD)

i. Global Ambassador Scholarship ("GAS")

All scholarship benefits are primarily intended for countries named on the DAC List of ODA recipient nations, as published by the OECD. (If a country is not named on the DAC List, applicants from these countries may be conferred a partial, rather than a full scholarship.)

Note: Applicants who apply for courses instructed in Chinese must have a good command of Chinese language. If their Chinese proficiency have not reached the requirement of our institution for professional learning (refer to section III below), they are required to take one year remedial Chinese language courses and pass the relevant test prior to the studies in their specialties. For those who take the one-year remedial Chinese language courses, the duration of the scholarship will be extended correspondingly.

 Eligibility

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good health.

2. Applicants must NOT be registered students in Chinese universities at the time of application or graduates from Chinese universities whose graduation is less than one year ago.

3. Education background and age limit:

-  Applicants for doctoral degree studies must be under the age of 40 and have master's degree.

-  Applicants for master's degree studies must be under the age of 35 and have bachelor's degree

- Applicants should have a competitive academic record.

- Applicants should have strong scientific research ability.

- Applicants should not be beneficiaries of any other scholarships.

4. Highest degree certificate, which must be original documents or notarized copies. If applicants are university students, they must also provide an official pre-graduation certificate showing their student status and stating expected graduation date. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.

5. Academic transcripts, which must be original documents or notarized copies. Applicants for master's degree studies need to provide their undergraduate transcripts, and those for doctoral degree studies need to provide their undergraduate and graduate transcripts.

Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.

6. Photocopies of language (Chinese or English) proficiency certificates. Applicants for Chinese-instructed programs must provide the photocopy of HSK certificate. Applicants for English-instructed programs must provide the certificate of TOEFL or IELTS test score. (Not required for English native speakers)

7. Personal statement, in Chinese or English, should include study and work experience, reasons for application and study proposal. No less than 1500 words.

8. Two letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors, in Chinese or English. (Professors’ contact phone number and email address must be put on the letter)

9. Published academic papers or other academic achievements. (if applicable)

10. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (filled in English). The original copy should be kept by the applicant. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form.

E. Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) scholarship program

The ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents (hereinafter referred to as the ANSO Scholarship) was formally launched in 2019 with the goal of training and cultivating young scientists from all over the world. The ANSO Scholarship supports 200 Master’s students and 300 PhD students every year to pursue postgraduate education at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) or institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) around China.

Every year, up to 200 master students and 300 PhD students from all over the world will be sponsored to study in CAS. For the 2023 admission cycle, a sub-category of the ANSO Scholarship: the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship will be officially launched. Echoing the priority of TWAS/UNESCO, special (not exclusive) consideration will be given to two target groups: Least Development Countries (LDCs) and women. Up to 40 PhD students from developing countries will be selected by TWAS/UNESCO into this category every year.

CAS, the leading founding member of ANSO, is the major sponsor of the ANSO Scholarship. TWAS and UNESCO, both founding members of ANSO, provide part of the funding for the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship awardees. ANSO welcomes all members and parties who are interested in creating a more diversified scholarship program together.

Awardees will receive a monthly stipend from CAS through USTC/UCAS.

General conditions

 Eligibility

•   Eligible applicants should NOT hold Chinese citizenship;

•   Eligible applicants should be proficient in English or Chinese;

•   For Master’s program applicants: you should be born after 1st January 1993 (inclusive);

For PhD program applicants: you should be born after 1st January 1988 (inclusive);

•   Eligible applicants should meet the admission criteria for international students of USTC/UCAS;

•   Eligible applicants should NOT take up other assignments during the period of his/her scholarship.

•   If you are currently pursuing a master’s degree at any university/institution in China, you are NOT eligible for the master’s program of this scholarship. If you are currently pursuing a doctoral degree at any university/institution in China, you are NOT eligible for the PhD program of this scholarship. Otherwise, you will be disqualified from admission and the situation will be reported to your current university/institution..

Scholarship Benefits

-Master awardees will receive a monthly stipend of RMB 3000,

-PhD awardees will receive a monthly stipend of RMB 6000 or RMB 7000 depending on whether he/she has passed the qualification test arranged by USTC/UCAS for all doctoral candidates after admission.

-All the awardees will also be provided with health insurance as well as tuition and application fee waivers.

-A certain amount of travel subsidy from their home countries to China will be provided to the awardees in order to begin the scholarship in China (one trip only per person).

- Any scholarship awardee on site in China, the host country, at the time of application will NOT be eligible for any travel subsidy.

F. UCAS scholarship

Part I: Introduction

The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) has set up the UCAS Scholarship for International Students to sponsor young talents all over the world to pursue Master’s or Doctoral degree, or attend courses, conduct research or pay academic visits at UCAS faculties/CAS institutes. The Scholarship also encourages international graduate students currently studying at foreign universities to come for study on joint programs.

The scholarship consists of both a full scholarship and a partial scholarship. The full scholarship provides tuition waiver, application fee waiver, monthly stipend, basic accommodation and medical insurance; while the partial scholarship covers some items of the Full. Since 2016, the Scholarship has been majorly sponsoring Master’s and doctoral candidates.

Part II: Coverage and duration

Full Scholarship

a) Tuition waiver

PhD students would be exempted from a tuition fee of RMB 40,000/year.

Master students would be exempted from a tuition fee of RMB 30,000/year.

b) Monthly stipend:

UCAS provides monthly stipend of RMB 2,500 for Doctoral students and RMB 2,000 for Master students. In addition, host supervisor and UCAS faculty/CAS institute (hereinafter referred to as faculty/institute) provide research assistantship for awardees considering their academic performances. The total amounts of monthly stipend will be no less than RMB 3500 for Doctoral students and RMB 3000 for Master students.

c) Accommodation:

UCAS provides basic accommodation to awardees from faculties/institutes located in Beijing. As for awardees from CAS institutes located outside Beijing, they would be provided with basic accommodation when attending the concentrated study at UCAS, while their host institutes would help to provide accommodation or solve accommodation-related problems when awardees are with them, and the awardees shall pay for relevant expenses as requested by the institutes.

 d) Medical Insurance:

The insurance premium is RMB 800/year and RMB 400/half year. Please refer to the www.lxbx.net for the introduction of insurance coverage.

e) Application Fee:

Students would be exempted from application processing fee of RMB 600.

f) Duration (with NO EXTENSION)

Master/Doctoral students: no longer than 36 months

Partial Scholarship

Coverage: including the above a), d), e).

Duration

Master/Doctoral students: no longer than 36 months; Students on joint programs and Regular and Senior visiting students: 6-24months.

Part III: Eligibility

Eligible applicants must:

Be non-Chinese citizen with a valid passport, friendly to China and abiding by the laws and decrees of China, and UCAS rules and regulations.

Be proficient in English or Chinese;

For PhD program applicants: be born after 1st January 1988 (inclusive);

For Master's program applicants: be born after 1st January 1993 (inclusive);

For Senior visiting students: be born after 1st January 1978 (inclusive);

For Regular visiting students: be born after 1st January 1983 (inclusive)

Meet the admission criteria for UCAS international students (please refer to the calls for 2023 Programs for international students);

Not take up other assignments during the period of his/her scholarship.

Scholarship awardees who pursue doctoral or master degree at UCAS should take full-time study without any occupation.

Note:

If you are currently pursuing a Master's degree at any university/institution in China, you are NOT eligible for the Master's program of this scholarship. If you are currently pursuing a doctoral degree at any university/institution in China, you are NOT eligible for the PhD program of this scholarship. Otherwise, you will be disqualified from admission and the situation will be reported to your current university/institution.

You are NOT allowed to apply for this scholarship with two supervisors simultaneously, otherwise you will be disqualified from admission.

Please log in the Online Admission System for International Students at UCAS (here) and follow its instructions to finish all the required application procedures. Additional Information

Awardees must register at the time and place indicated in the Admission Notice. Otherwise, they should apply for extension of their registration.

The duration of the scholarship stated explicitly in the Admission Notice.

Registered awardees must abide by relevant rules and regulations of the universities, and attend reviews and examinations, such as annual review on time. Awardees who fail review or examination will be deprived of their scholarship or their scholarship will be suspended.

Any work produced and published by the awardees during the funding period of the scholarship must be credited to the institute/school and the university where the awardees are enrolled. Awardees are also required to acknowledge “Sponsored by UCAS Scholarship for International Students”.

G. MEXT Scholarship

The MEXT scholarship is comprehensive scholarship sponsored by the government of Japan, in which Japanese universities recommend individual applicants to the Ministry of Education

Category- All fields

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship, an applicant must:

Have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with the Japanese government. Applicants who have Japanese nationality are not eligible.

Be in both good physical and mental health.

Be willing to newly acquire a student visa and newly enter Japan for the purpose of study upon receipt of the scholarship.

Have a CGPA equal to or higher than 2.30 out of 3.00 for most recent two years of formal study.

Meet or exceed the academic and linguistic ability requirements established by MEXT.

Scholarship Benefits:

Monthly Allowance: JPY 143,000-145,000 (based on 2019 figures). The amount is subject to change according to budgetary constraints and cost of goods.

Tuition: Students will be exempted from paying tuition fees while under scholarship.

Travel: (to Japan): Students will be provided a one-way, economy-class ticket

Travel to the airport in their home country and travel within Japan are at the expense of the student. Travel must originate from the student’s home country

Students who leave Japan during the month of completing their scholarship-sponsored studies will be provided an economy-class ticket from the international airport closest to the international airport closest to their home.

H. Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme

Background

Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong in 2009, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD studies in Hong Kong's universities.

Eligibility

Candidates who are seeking admission as new full time PhD students in the following eight universities, irrespective of their country of origin, prior work experience and ethnic background, should be eligible to apply.

Fellowship Award

The Fellowship provides an annual stipend of HK$325,200 (approximately US$41,690) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$13,600 (approximately US$1,740) per year for each awardee for a period up to three years. 300 PhD Fellowships will be awarded in the 2023/24 academic year*. For awardees who need more than three years to complete the PhD degree, additional support may be provided by the chosen universities.
