• Description:

The Quantum Materials and Nanophotonics Group at University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is offering PhD scholarships for experimental and theoretical projects in solid-state quantum photonics.

Crystal defects or “artificial atoms” that act as single photon emitters (SPEs) have numerous potential applications in quantum sensing and quantum information processing. However, broad deployment of SPE-based technologies has so far been limited by shortcomings in the properties of SPEs and their host materials. We are tackling this problem from various angles, spanning the fabrication of SPEs in 2D materials, control and integration of SPEs in photonic and optoelectronic devices, meta-optics, and computation modelling of defects in solids. Scholarships are available for PhD projects in these disciplines. The projects will be conducted in collaboration with research teams in Australia and abroad, and in the ARC Centre of Excellence in Transformative Meta-Optical Systems

Stipend Value $37,000 per year and additional funds ($7.5k) during the course of the PhD for PhD-related expenses. Duration 3.5 years
