• Description:

The Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine, Germany’s largest research institute for tropical medicine, invites applications for a highly motivated PhD student to join the Molecular Parasitology group led by Dr. Joachim Michael Matz. The research will focus on studying SNARE proteins in human malaria parasites, contributing to our understanding of Plasmodium biology and potential therapeutic targets.

The successful candidate will engage in a doctoral project aiming to characterize the role of SNARE proteins in parasite development, protein secretion, and host cell remodeling in Plasmodium falciparum. The project involves comprehensive training in molecular and cell biology, including the generation of transgenic cell lines and the application of advanced imaging techniques. The goal is to elucidate molecular mechanisms underlying vital pathways in the malaria parasite.

    Our Benefits:

    1. Interesting and challenging research project.
    2. Comprehensive training in state-of-the-art genetic and microscopic techniques.
    3. Integration into an open-minded, collaborative, and highly motivated research team.
    4. Structured PhD training program with opportunities for further education and training.
    5. Participation in national and international conferences.
    6. Flexible and family-friendly working hours.
    7. Subsidies for childcare and HVV-ProfiTicket.
    8. Company pension scheme.
    9. Special conditions in selected sports and fitness clubs in Hamburg.
